Hawaiian Miles Charities Partner Program (by Tay Perry, Membership Chair/ FHH Board Member)
At this point at least 70% of our members are in the plan. We plan to have this at 99% by the end of the year. The “Friends” have many non-members in our canoe ohana that are also being asked to participate. In early November we plan to issue a newsletter to our members and friends asking them to sign up. In early December we will have our annual Christmas party and will be promoting Hawaiian Miles Charities there.
We are not a very large organization, but we are growing and we come in contact with many in the canoe-related community which makes us come in contact with a lot of people.”

The Friends have scheduled a monthly work day at the Pier 60 location on the 1st Saturday of each month. We arrive around 9:00 AM and report to Jerry Ongies for our work assignment.
Our biggest project for now is to refurbish the Hawai‘iloa. The Friends and METC have been contracted by Bishop Museum to complete the project.
We welcome anyone who would like to help and volunteer a few hours of their time on any day of the week or of the month. For some who we haven't seen in a while, it would be good to get together again and catch up on lost time. We would love to hear from you.
Spear headed by Nainoa Thompson/PVS, a collaboration of the statewide voyaging canoe organizations met during this past Labor Day weekend, hosted by Chad Babayan at the Imi‘loa Center in Hilo. The Friends were invited as canoe builders and their ongoing relationship with the voyaging clubs. The main purpose was to establish core values, a mission statement, and governance structure. We reconvene on December 2 at Kawaihae to formalize the relationship. We extend our Mahalo to Tom Kaulukukui for facilitating this initial planning meeting.
Warehouse Cleanup on Sat., December 2: We will start around 9:00 AM. All who are willing and able are welcome.
